Bill Tai lit up his first Bitcoin mining program in late 2009, seeking to build community in the segment 8 years ago. In the Blockchain segment, he is a lead investor and a Board Director of BitFury, where he Chairs the Board's Strategy Committee. He helped launch ICO's for P2P Energy Company Power Ledger, Australia's first ICO, and Airswap a distributed exchange. He created the Blockchain Summit on Necker Island four years ago and is author of "Blockchain is to Banks What TCP/IP is to Telcos". Originally trained as a chip designer, Bill joined LSI Logic, a seminal Silicon Valley startup after earning a BSEE with Honors from University of Illinois. After earning an MBA at Harvard he established the Semiconductor Practice for Alex. Brown & Sons, leading IPO's for companies including Atmel, Cirrus Logic, Dallas Semiconductor, Exar and Zilog. He has been creating and funding startups as a VC since 1991. As a VC, Bill is Partner Emeritus at CRV. Previously he served as a General Partner at IVP. Operationally, he is Co-founder and Chairman of Treasure Data, was Founding Chairman & CEO of iAsiaWorks (IPO via Goldman Sachs & Morgan Stanley) and Founding Chairman of IPinfusion (Tokyo:4813). He has served as Board Director of 7 publicly listed companies (AWRD EGHT IAWK NPIX TMTA TUNE and IMGO) that grew from startups he funded at their formative stages. Bill's investments include BitFury, BlockSeer, Canva, Color Genomics, Tweetdeck/Twitter, Voxer and Zoom Video. He serves on the World Economic Forum's Technology Pioneer Committee and is an Adjunct Professor of Innovation at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. Outside of technology, he is a sponsored athlete in kiteboarding and founder of ACTAI Global, a registered 501(c)3 supporting Ocean Conservation and Entrepreneurship
